Mr. Chocktoot’s Journey Back to Independence

After three months and three different healthcare facilities, Clayton Chocktoot arrived at Springdale West Respiratory & Ventilator Center, unable to breathe on his own.

Clayton Chocktoot Prepares at Springdale West for His Journey Home

Mr. Chocktoot, 64-years-old and semi-retired, was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare and very serious disease which affects the nervous system causing paralysis.

The nature of the disease typically results in loss of respiratory ability. Clayton went into respiratory failure and was admitted into the hospital, and placed on a ventilator. After weeks at the hospital, his wife Theresa had Clayton moved to Springdale West's  ventilator care program for intensive rehabilitation.

The sub-acute Respiratory and Ventilator Care Center located at Springdale West in Mesa, Arizona, immediately began a personalized treatment plan for Mr. Chocktoot. His care plan combined Respiratory Therapy and Skilled Nursing services, together with PT, OT & Speech Therapy in an intensive program.

Springdale West’s treatment team includes experienced staff and the best equipment. The facility offers the Bernoulli Ventilator Management System combined with state-of -the-art ventilators and caring staff.

Today he is back home in the White Mountains of Northern Arizona – after great determination and hard work – and breathing independently again.

What Clayton Chocktoot recalls about his stay at Springdale West is simple: “They treated me with respect...like a human being. I’ll miss the staff here.”
